All Hands on Deck – Peddlers’ Fair is Aug. 14

Helpers are needed to host the friendliest street fair in town! Opportunities abound for traffic control, office help, check-in team, quality control, street marking, tow letter distribution, advertising/PR, St. Paul’s information booth, parking monitor, trash/recycle patrol, etc. Contact the Peddlers’ Fair Office at info@beniciapeddlersfair.org or call (707) 745-8680.

Proceeds from the fair help St. Paul’s maintain its historic building. Thanks in advance to the entire St. Paul’s family for your support!

School Backpack Project Donations Due Aug. 1

We are asking the parishioners of St Paul’s to collect needed school supplies and backpacks. We have 40 children on our list this year from our Benicia community.

You can help by donating supplies or writing a check (please put Backpack Drive on memo line of your check). You can put the check in the offering plate or bring/mail to the Parish Office.

We will be handing out a list of needed school supplies after each service. The list will also be in the parish office. The backpacks can be for any age students that are listed.

Please bring your supply donations to our Sunday service or to the parish office on or before Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021.

Guest Celebrant and Preacher Aug. 1

We look forward to welcoming The Rev. Grace Flint as our guest celebrant and preacher next Sunday, Aug. 1.  Rev. Grace is a former St. Paul’s seminarian and current associate rector at St. John’s in Chico.

 Poll Workers Needed Sept. 14

St. Paul’s will again staff a polling place for the Special Election on Sept. 14, 2021.  Some 50 people from our congregation have worked in this important civic project in the last three elections.  Poll Workers are paid a modest stipend for their work, and most members have treated this as a special Party of Parties and turned their pay into contributions to St. Paul’s.

We invite anyone (including friends of members) who wishes to join us.  This Adopt-a-Poll process permits us to develop shifts so that no one has to work the full 15-hour day; we are hoping to have enough workers to have three shifts of 5 or 6 hours.  There are no special knowledge requirements—training for all aspects of the work will be done online.  Students who are 16 years old and a junior in high school may work with the permission of their parents and their school.

If you are interested, please call Mary Goshert or Gene Ekenstam and we will explain the process.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to actively participate in Democracy as well as help St. Paul’s financially.

Community Meal News

Have you ever wondered how you might volunteer for the Community Meal? Did you know we are now serving 350+ meals a week between Monday and Wednesday? With that, we also offer a bottle (or 2) of bottled water. And though water is not expensive by itself, 350 bottles a week adds up! If you’ve ever considered a way to help, purchasing a case or two of water periodically would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

American Cancer Society Relay for Life Aug. 7-8

St. Paul’s Holy Strollers will be walking and fundraising in support of the American Cancer Society again this year. The event will be at St. Patrick/ St. Vincent High School August 7 for 24 hours, wrapping up the morning of August 8.

If you would like to walk some laps, please register at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/stpaulsbenicia21 and I’ll be in touch about scheduling and other details. Cancer survivors can also sign up to receive a special T-shirt. If you would like to participate but are not comfortable attending, please sign up and then walk with us virtually from your own neighborhood. All are welcome.

Want to support our team fundraising? Donate online at the website, or mail a check made payable to ACS c/o my home address in the church directory.

Please email me if you would like to create luminarias in memory and honor of loved ones affected by cancer so I can get materials to you. The luminarias will be lit on the track this year for all to see.

With hope, Laura Peabody-Park
