About Our Bishop and the Diocese of Northern California

Our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Megan Traquair, is the 8th bishop of the Diocese of Northern California, and our first woman bishop! She was elected and consecrated in 2019. Bishop Megan came to us from the Diocese of Arizona, where she served as Canon to the Ordinary. Serving churches both in rural and urban areas, Megan+ has an enduring interest in church growth and the active formation of disciples. She values preaching and good liturgy which speaks to the people and strengthens us for engaging with Jesus and serving the world.

She and her staff in Sacramento oversee 66 congregations with 11,678 members. Geographically, the Diocese goes from the Northern California Coast to the Nevada border, and from the Oregon border right here to us. That’s right – St. Paul’s Benicia is the southernmost congregation! We have a long tradition here of volunteering at the diocesan level, and a few members serving currently.

To learn more about what’s happening in the Diocese, visit the website at www.norcalepiscopal.org. For news and updates right into your inbox, sign up for the weekly E-news at https://www.norcalepiscopal.org/about/#signup.

Sunday Collection for Bishop’s Discretionary Fund

Our canons (church laws) dictate that the funds collected today be given to the Bishop’s discretionary fund. Discretionary funds are distributed to the poor and for other charitable purposes. In our diocese, this can include gift cards for fire victims, financial support for nonprofits, and rental or utility assistance for people in need. Your gifts to this fund will reach people from Benicia to the Oregon border, from the coast to the Sierras. Thank you for your generosity!

Text EDNC bishop $20.00 to 73256 to give to the Bishop’s Discretionary fund using your text messaging. Standard text messaging rates may apply.

Wednesday Holy Eucharist and Bible Study Cancelled May 11

The communion service and bible study will be cancelled this week while clergy are away at a conference.

Thanks for Supporting Our Youth

Your support for the St. Paul’s Sierra Service Project and the youth is so very much appreciated! We had a very successful St. Patrick’s Dinner and opportunity drawing. We held the drawing on Good Friday with Grace Castaneda pulling the tickets. Thank you, Gracie! All winners have been notified, and once again, thank you!

New Exhibit on Display in Church

In celebration of Bishop Megan’s visit, an exhibit about Bishop William Ingraham Kip, the first Episcopal bishop of California, is on display. Come by the south transept to learn more about Bishop Kip, his arduous journey to California, and his time as the Episcopal bishop of California.
