Welcome to our new Interim Pastor The Rev. Peter Champion

Peter Champion comes to St. Paul’s with 28 years of ministry as an Episcopal priest.  He grew up in West Los Angeles and is a graduate of Brown University and the Chef Training program at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College.  An adult convert to Christianity, he was baptized and confirmed at the age of 25.  He worked in the restaurant business for a dozen years before attending Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.  He served churches in Western New York, Eastern Oregon and Hawai’i before moving to the Bay Area in 2006.  After “retiring” in 2013, Peter has served as an interim and Sunday supply priest, and substitute taught in 2 school districts.  He has been an active anti-racism trainer in the Diocese of California since 2010.

Peter and his wife of 44 years, the Rev. Susan Champion (Rector of Christ the Lord Church in Pinole) live in a craftsman bungalow in Rodeo.  They have 2 adult daughters and 3 fantastic grandchildren with a 4th on the way.  He is passionate about social justice and environmental issues.  Peter enjoys travel, reading, music (especially opera), yoga, camping and hiking, gardening, cooking and the New York Times crosswords.
